History of Sky Brown

From a young age, Sky Brown surprised skateboarding fans around the world. It is undeniably impressive how she had much experience and even wins competing in big skateboarding events all around the world. You just cannot ignore how she’s killing it in competition but never forget to always be cheerful and have a lot of fun. Brown was born on July 7, 2008, in Miyazaki, Japan. She is of Japanese and British descent. Not much is said about Brown’s personal life other than some information about her family. Her father, Stuart Brown, is British and was also a professional skater. Her mother, Mieko, is Japanese. It’s also notable that Brown has a younger brother named Ocean Brown who is also a professional skater too. Through many social media posts, we can see that the siblings have a tight bond as they spend a lot of time together.

From an early age, she was exposed to the world of skateboarding as her family embraced the sport. As expected, Brown was quick to put her feet on the board, practicing in her school’s skatepark or the ramp at her home in Takanabe, Miyazaki. With her incredible skill, Brown never trained with a skateboarding coach. Reports have said that she learned her tricks through YouTube sessions and occasionally practice with “Olympic” snowboarding medalist — Shaun White.

With a genuine passion for skateboarding and the willingness to practice hard, it was no doubt that Brown was going to be a successful skater in the years to come. Well, that is definitely in her track record so far. Following her father’s footsteps, Brown started skating at the age of three. She made her competition debut when she participated in the 2016 ” Vans U.S. Open” at the age of eight —making her the youngest contestant in the event. At the age of ten, she officially became a professional athlete, being granted sponsorship by the skateboarding brand Skateistan (2018). Brown also made an appearance in the X Games’ where she won fifth place and became the first female to land a ‘frontside 540’ in the competition (2019). Later on, Brown went on to win third place at the World Skateboarding Championships in Brazil (2020). In the same year, Brown got into a horrific skateboarding accident when she was training with Tony Hawk’s private practicing hall. She suffered from a fractured skull and a broken left wrist. Her father was very scared and said that she was “lucky to be alive.” Despite the accident, Brown never backed down from practicing for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics after her recovery. In the following year, Brown was chosen to represent Great Britain at the delayed 2020 “Summer Olympics.” She won a bronze medal in the women’s skateboarding event and became Great Britain’s all-time youngest medalist (2021). In that same year, Brown also won gold at the women’s skateboarding event (2021). Aside from skateboarding, Brown also has an interest in surfing and dance.
