Severe bleeding remains one of the leading causes of preventable death in trauma patients, and early access to blood has been shown to significantly improve survival. This program places the SFD among a small but growing group of advanced EMS providers in Wisconsin that are bringing hospital-level care directly to patients when minutes matter most.

With this implementation, the SFD will become the first EMS service in Sheboygan County to carry and administer blood products in the field. A limited number of EMS agencies across the state have begun implementing similar programs. To kick off the new program, a blood drive is being held today at City of Sheboygan Fire Department – Station 3 Headquarters from 1-7pm, and donors are asked to pre-register through a provided link.
