Karen Lee, managing editor of Progressive Dairy, recounts her experience attending the Managers Academy training program in Puerto Rico, where dairy producers and industry representatives came together for three days of management training, farm tours, and team-building activities. The event pushed attendees out of their comfort zones and allowed them to connect with peers, share stories, and find common ground.
Why it matters
The Managers Academy provides a valuable opportunity for dairy industry members to step away from their day-to-day operations, learn new management strategies, and build relationships with others facing similar challenges. In an increasingly complex industry, these types of collaborative events can help strengthen the dairy community and foster innovative solutions.
The details
The Managers Academy training program took place over three days in Puerto Rico, with attendees participating in case studies, farm tours, and team-building exercises. Despite some initial hesitation, the group quickly bonded over their shared experiences and passion for the dairy industry. Activities included visiting a coffee plantation, vegetable and tobacco farm, and rum distillery, as well as enjoying a dinner suspended 100 feet in the air over Old San Juan.
- The Managers Academy training program took place from February 23-25, 2026.
- Karen Lee also recently attended the Dairy Strong conference in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
