One of the top scorers in the Big South Conference, 6-foot-5 guard Brycen Blaine from Charleston Southern, is set to visit the Utah men's basketball program this weekend. Blaine, who averaged 17.2 points, 7.2 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 1.3 steals last season, is also reportedly visiting East Carolina and NC State as he explores a potential move to the Power 5 ranks for his redshirt senior year.

Why it matters

Utah is in need of backcourt depth after losing its top two scorers from last season, Terrence Brown and Don McHenry, to the transfer portal and graduation. Blaine's scoring prowess and all-around production could help fill those voids, while also providing much-needed floor spacing with his 3-point shooting ability.

The details

Blaine, a Richmond, Virginia native, is a former junior college standout who missed the 2023-24 season due to injury. He had a standout 2025-26 campaign at Charleston Southern, scoring 20 or more points in 10 games, including a 42-point, 11-rebound, 8-assist performance against The Citadel in November. The 6-foot-5 guard shot 34.6% from 3-point range last season and could provide Utah with an experienced scoring threat in the backcourt.

  • Blaine will visit East Carolina on Thursday and Friday this week.
  • Blaine will visit Utah on Saturday and Sunday this weekend.
  • Blaine will visit NC State at some point next week.

What’s next

Utah's coaching staff will host Brycen Blaine on campus this weekend to evaluate him as a potential transfer addition for the 2026-27 season.

The takeaway

Utah's search for backcourt depth in the transfer portal has led them to Brycen Blaine, a highly productive guard from the Big South Conference who could provide an immediate scoring boost and help replace the production lost from the departures of Terrence Brown and Don McHenry.
