Norfolk International Airport has completed another phase of its $1 billion transformation project, including the opening of new airline gates in Concourse A and the debut of a local coffee shop called Town Center Cold Pressed. The expanded concourse features floor-to-ceiling windows, providing natural light and views of the airfield, in contrast to the older parts of the 1970s-era terminal. Airport officials say the upgrades are aimed at modernizing the facility and accommodating growing passenger traffic.

Why it matters

The airport's expansion and modernization efforts are crucial to keeping up with increasing passenger demand. Norfolk International has seen a 3.2% increase in traffic in the first three months of 2026 compared to the same period last year, and reached a record 4.9 million passengers in 2025. The new gates and amenities will help the airport better serve travelers.

The details

The new gates A10, A11 and A12 in Concourse A can now be used by American Airlines passengers. The 19,000-square-foot expansion also includes the first Hampton Roads-based concession, Town Center Cold Pressed coffee shop, as part of the airport's food and beverage revamp. Other new amenities include additional restrooms and an indoor pet relief area.
