The Old Dominion Monarchs men's basketball team defeated the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns 83-72, led by a dominant 27-point performance from senior Jordan Battle in his final home game. The Monarchs have now won three of their last four games, improving to 9-18 overall and 6-9 in the Sun Belt Conference.
Why it matters
The Monarchs are gaining momentum as the regular season winds down, with less than two weeks remaining before the Sun Belt Conference tournament. Battle's standout performance in his final home game is a highlight for the team and the local Norfolk community.
The details
Battle, a Norfolk native and Norfolk Collegiate graduate who transferred from Coastal Carolina for his senior season, shot 7-of-10 from the floor and 10-of-11 at the free-throw line, while also grabbing eight rebounds and dishing out three assists. The Monarchs leaned heavily on their starting five, who accounted for 81 of the team's 83 points. Despite being outrebounded 35-29, ODU controlled the paint, holding a decisive 44-28 advantage in interior scoring.
- The Monarchs wrap up the regular season with road games against the Southern Miss Golden Eagles, the Marshall Thundering Herd, and the Georgia State Panthers before heading to the conference tournament in Pensacola.
