Fairfax County is among those under a drought warning, the more serious designation that signals a significant drought event is considered imminent. Other Northern Virginia jurisdictions under the same advisory include Arlington, Loudoun and Prince William counties, along with the cities of Alexandria, Fairfax, Falls Church, Manassas and Manassas Park. State and local officials are urging residents to cut back on water use, particularly outdoor watering, as conditions worsen. They also warn that dry conditions have increased the risk of fires, especially those caused by improperly discarded smoking materials.
