Park City, Utah has been selected as one of the host sites for the Snow League, a new professional halfpipe snowboarding competition created by three-time Olympic champion Shaun White. The league will bring an Olympic-sized halfpipe back to Park City, which hosted the event during the 2002 Winter Olympics and is slated to host Olympic snowboarding again in 2034.
Why it matters
Park City has long been considered one of the most important venues in snowboarding, having hosted major events and produced Olympic champions. The return of an Olympic-caliber halfpipe is seen as a boost for the sport, which has seen a decline in the number of high-quality training facilities across the U.S. in recent years.
The details
The Snow League event in Park City is scheduled for January 22-24, 2027, coinciding with the traditional Sundance Film Festival weekend. The league was created by Shaun White, who won three Olympic gold medals in the men's halfpipe. Park City last hosted a 22-foot halfpipe in 2019 for the world championships.
