What they’re saying

“This year he kind of went in with the mentality that whatever you need coach, we'll do it. Us having conversations with him that hey it's going to be five events. We expect you to be an area qualifier in five events. Not only is he an area qualifier in five events, but he took it upon himself to be a first-place finisher in all five of those events. It's a unique deal.”

— Lloyd Chisum, Head Coach, Legacy Boys Track

“We're just excited about Derrion's future, within our program, he's a heck of a young talent. He reminds me a lot of Caden and Nic and (Masseye) Diop in the hunger to be a really, really great competitor in track and field.”

— Lloyd Chisum, Head Coach, Legacy Boys Track

“(Helmke) could have not had a good performance after what had happened on the exchange, but she did, so she was able to overcome and be successful and that's a credit to her being able to gather herself, flushing whatever bad happened and focusing on the next race. It's what we talk about all the time, it's about process, not result.”

— Frank Maldonado, Head Coach, Legacy Girls Track
