The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has rescheduled a public hearing to discuss plans to widen FM 407 across southern Denton County. The new in-person hearing will be held on April 30, with a virtual option available until May 15. The project aims to expand the 11.5-mile stretch of FM 407 from two lanes to a six-lane, urban-divided road.

Why it matters

FM 407 has long been a traffic bottleneck for drivers in southern Denton County trying to access I-35W. This widening project is expected to provide much-needed relief and improve mobility in the region.

The details

The public hearing will be hosted by TxDOT to gather input on the proposed reconstruction and widening of FM 407 from Bill Cook Road in Justin to FM 1830 in Argyle. The existing right-of-way will be expanded from 80-90 feet to about 140 feet, and the project will also include pedestrian and bike accommodations. TxDOT estimates that about six residences will be affected by the construction, with relocation assistance available.

  • The original public hearing was scheduled for January 29 but was postponed due to possible severe weather.
  • The new in-person public hearing will be held on Thursday, April 30 from 5-7 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Justin.
  • The virtual option will be available online after the meeting and remain on the TxDOT website until 11:59 p.m. on Friday, May 15.
