Boy Scout Troop 221 in Beaumont, Texas is proposing to install a 24-hour pet microchip scanning station at Rogers Park. The station would allow residents to scan found pets for identification microchips at any time, helping to reunite lost animals with their owners faster and reducing the burden on local animal services.
Why it matters
Currently, individuals who find lost pets in Beaumont often have to rely on animal services or shelters to identify the animals, which can delay the reunification process. The proposed scanning station would empower the public to take action and quickly reunite lost pets with their owners.
The details
The project is being led by Life Scout Isaak Simoneaux as part of his Eagle Scout service requirement. If approved by the Beaumont City Council, the station would be installed along a sidewalk between the Rogers Park Community Center and the park's dog area. Troop 221 plans to raise funds to cover the full cost of purchasing and installing the station, including equipment, signage and electrical work. A licensed electrician has volunteered services for the installation, and additional materials may be donated by local businesses.
- The Beaumont City Council is scheduled to consider the proposal on Tuesday, April 8, 2026.
- If approved, the goal is to complete installation of the scanning station by August 2026.
