The removal of stop signs at a Clarksville intersection aims to improve traffic flow while maintaining safety for drivers and pedestrians.Clarksville TodaySafety improvements have been completed at the intersection of Rossview Road and Rollow Lane in Clarksville, Tennessee, allowing the temporary stop signs to be removed. The intersection previously had limited visibility due to elevation changes and a hillside, leading to several accidents. After an engineering study, the hillside was partially removed to improve sight distance for drivers.
Why it matters
The intersection of Rossview and Rollow has been a safety concern for local residents, with many accidents occurring due to poor visibility. The recent grading project to improve sight lines is expected to reduce the risk of collisions while also easing traffic congestion that had built up from the temporary stop signs.
The details
As an interim solution, the Tennessee Department of Transportation had installed a three-way stop at the intersection to improve safety. However, this also created significant traffic congestion, often backing up to the nearby Interstate 24 exit. After an engineering study determined the required sight distance, the county worked with the hillside's property owner to allow the necessary changes. Byard Construction then removed the portion of the hill that had been blocking visibility of oncoming traffic.
- The safety improvements were recently completed in April 2026.
- The temporary stop signs have now been removed as a result of the completed project.
