The West Chester University women's basketball team has dropped four straight games and six of their last seven, putting their postseason hopes in jeopardy. After a 58-52 loss to Bloomsburg, the Golden Rams now sit at 6-11 in the PSAC and are battling with Shepherd University for the final playoff spot from the PSAC East division. Head coach Kiera Wooden acknowledged the team's struggles with missed shots, turnovers, and rebounding, and said they need to fix those issues to have a shot at making the playoffs.
Why it matters
West Chester has made the PSAC Tournament in 10 of the last 11 seasons under Wooden's leadership, missing it only in the 2019-20 season. The team's current slump puts that impressive playoff streak in serious jeopardy, and a failure to reach the postseason would be a significant setback for the program.
The details
In the loss to Bloomsburg, West Chester shot just 33% from the field, was outscored 18-4 on second chance points, and turned the ball over 13 times. The Rams were also woeful from the free throw line, connecting on just 6 of 14 attempts. West Chester did manage to cut the deficit to 48-47 with just over 4 minutes left, but could not complete the comeback, making just 1 of 3 free throws and turning it over 3 times down the stretch.
- West Chester has dropped 4 straight games and 6 of their last 7.
- The Rams are now 6-11 in PSAC play and 10-13 overall.
- West Chester will travel to face Shepherd next week in a crucial game for the final PSAC East playoff spot.
