Independence Health System is celebrating National Donate Life Month throughout April to raise awareness about the critical need for organ donors. Nationally, over 100,000 people are waiting for an organ transplant, including more than 6,000 in Pennsylvania and over 500 in West Virginia. On average, 13 people die each day waiting for a transplant.

Why it matters

Organ donation can save lives, but there is a severe shortage of available donors. National Donate Life Month aims to educate the public about the importance of registering as an organ donor and honoring those who have given the gift of life through donation.
