The Louisville Cardinals have landed a commitment from former Oregon Ducks point guard Jackson Shelstad through the NCAA transfer portal. Shelstad, a 6-foot-1 native of West Linn, Oregon, was a third-team All-Big Ten selection as a sophomore but missed most of his junior season due to a hand injury. He will now join new Louisville head coach Pat Kelsey's backcourt for the 2026-27 season.

Why it matters

Shelstad's addition provides Louisville with an experienced floor general to lead the team after the departure of several key players. His ability to distribute the ball and limit turnovers could be a major asset for the Cardinals as they look to bounce back from a down year and compete in the ACC.

The details

Shelstad appeared in only 12 games for Oregon as a junior after breaking his right hand during a practice roughly a month before the season started. He later reinjured the hand in late December, forcing him to miss the remainder of the campaign. Despite the injury issues, Shelstad showed promise when healthy, averaging 15.6 points, 4.9 assists, and 1.4 steals per game across his 12 starts.

  • Shelstad committed to Louisville on Sunday, April 12, 2026.
  • He visited the Louisville campus this past weekend alongside former Kansas big man Flory Bidunga, who also committed to the Cardinals.
