A recent spate of gun-related incidents in Concord exposes the ongoing challenges of repeat offenders and bail reform.Manchester TodayJayden Ballam-Quiah, a 20-year-old Manchester resident, was arrested earlier this month on multiple charges including criminal threatening and robbery. The charges stem from three separate incidents that occurred in Concord, New Hampshire in March, including a possible drug deal gone bad, a gun threat on Loudon Road, and an attempted robbery on Ellsworth Street.
Why it matters
This case highlights the challenges law enforcement faces in dealing with repeat offenders who continue to commit crimes while out on bail. It raises questions about bail reform and the ability of the justice system to effectively monitor and restrict the activities of individuals with a history of violent and criminal behavior.
The details
On March 4, police responded to a report of a man down on the ground on West Street, who appeared to have been run over. It was later determined that the victim had been dragged by a vehicle during what may have been a drug deal gone bad. Around 3.5 hours later, officers were called to Loudon Road for a report of three men in hoodies and ski masks, with one holding a gun. A witness identified Ballam-Quiah as the person who pointed a laser-equipped gun at another vehicle. On March 10, police responded to a report of an attempted robbery on Ellsworth Street, where a person was approached by a vehicle with three people inside and threatened and assaulted in an attempt to steal their property.
