A crackdown on impaired and distracted driving aims to keep Nebraska's roads safe as the summer travel season approaches.Lincoln TodayThe Nebraska State Patrol removed 20 impaired drivers from the road during a special enforcement effort last weekend as part of the 'Put the Phone Away or Pay' campaign, which coincided with Distracted Driving Awareness Month. In addition to the DUI arrests, troopers also issued hundreds of citations for various traffic violations.

The details
During the five-day campaign from April 9-13, Nebraska State Patrol troopers arrested 20 drivers for driving under the influence. They also issued 375 citations for speeding, 24 for driving under suspension, 9 for open alcohol container, 2 for minor in possession of alcohol, 12 for no seat belt, 4 for improper child restraint, and 4 for failing to move over. Troopers also performed over 100 motorist assists on Nebraska roadways.
