NPPD Hosting Open Houses in Clearwater For New Transmission Line

Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) will host an open house on March 24 in Clearwater, Nebraska to gather public input for a new transmission project in the area. NPPD plans to build an approximately 27-mile, 345 kilovolt (kV) transmission line to connect existing substations in southeast Holt County and northeast of Neligh in Antelope County, in order to increase the system's transmission capacity and enhance reliability and resiliency in the north central Nebraska region.

This new transmission line project is aimed at addressing growing electricity demand and improving the overall resilience of the power grid in north central Nebraska. Open houses allow NPPD to collect valuable feedback from local landowners and stakeholders to help determine the optimal route for the new line.

The details

At the open house, NPPD will collect property information from landowners in the study area. Input from landowners and interested stakeholders will help NPPD evaluate potential routes for the 345kV transmission line. The open house session is informal and provides the opportunity to review project information and visit with project team members.

• The open house will be held on Tuesday, March 24, 2026 from 3 to 7 p.m. at the American Legion hall in Clearwater.
• A self-paced virtual open house will be available on nppd.com/HoltCounty-Antelope from Tuesday, March 24 through Friday, April 10, 2026.

What’s next

This open house is the first of three rounds of public informational meetings NPPD plans to host for the project. The next steps include a second set of open houses to highlight potential routes and gain additional feedback, followed by a set of public hearings to announce a proposed route.
