The Town of Mocksville, North Carolina, is working on a Comprehensive Plan Update and Downtown Master Plan, with community participation guiding the process. Throughout March, residents, business owners, and community leaders took part in two downtown workshops to identify key priorities and explore potential solutions for the town's future growth and downtown revitalization.

Why it matters

As Mocksville continues to grow, with a population reaching around 6,000, the town is proactively planning for the future to preserve its small-town character and historic charm while addressing increasing demand for housing, retail, and public spaces. The community-driven planning process aims to shape a shared vision for Mocksville's downtown that supports local businesses, attracts visitors, and creates a more vibrant and accessible urban environment.

The details

During the first workshop, participants highlighted priorities such as maintaining the town's small-town feel, expanding housing options, creating more retail and entertainment opportunities, improving walkability and streetscapes, supporting small businesses, and developing public gathering spaces. The second workshop focused on exploring potential solutions, including the redevelopment of the former mill site, opportunities for a downtown park or public space, streetscape improvements, and parking enhancements. Planners noted that the mill site offers significant redevelopment potential, but also presents challenges related to topography, infrastructure, and coordination with existing public facilities.

  • The first downtown workshop was held on March 16, 2026.
  • The second downtown workshop was held on March 30, 2026.
  • The third and final downtown workshop is scheduled for April 20, 2026.
