A mobile market brings affordable, fresh food options to families in need across Johnston County.Clayton TodayA weekly mobile market from the nonprofit Ripe for Revival is returning to Johnston County, North Carolina this month, aiming to provide affordable access to fresh, healthy food for local families facing rising grocery costs. The mobile market will operate on Mondays from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. on April 13, April 20, and April 27 at a location in Clayton, offering produce, meat, and dairy at prices typically 30% lower than traditional grocery stores through a pay-what-you-can model.
Why it matters
Many families in central North Carolina are struggling to afford fresh, nutritious food as gas and grocery prices continue to climb. This mobile market initiative aims to address food insecurity in the region by bringing affordable, high-quality groceries directly to residents who may otherwise go without.
The details
The mobile market is a partnership between Ripe for Revival, a nonprofit organization focused on addressing food insecurity, and Brightspeed. So far in 2026, the mobile market has distributed nearly 14,000 pounds of food, reaching an estimated 5,600 North Carolina residents. Ripe for Revival was founded in 2018 by entrepreneur Will Kornegay, initially focused on helping farmers find markets for imperfect produce before expanding into food products and home delivery services across the state. In 2021, Kornegay launched Ripe for Revival to directly address food insecurity through a fleet of mobile markets.
