Lenoir-Rhyne's offensive onslaught in the doubleheader sweep showcases their potent lineup and ability to score runs in bunches.Belmont TodayThe Lenoir-Rhyne Baseball team scored 31 runs on Saturday to complete a weekend sweep of Emory & Henry. In the opener, LR pounded 25 hits as Matt Procopio, Drew Beard, and Sylas Boris each had four-hit games. Boris hit a pair of home runs and collected six RBIs in the 19-9 victory. In the nightcap, Mackenzie Wainwright and Lleyton Lackey both hit home runs to lead Lenoir-Rhyne to a 12-3 win.
Why it matters
The two wins improve Lenoir-Rhyne's record to 30-8-1 overall and 19-7-1 in the South Atlantic Conference. The Bears are currently in the hunt for a spot in the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional tournament.
The details
In the first game, Lenoir-Rhyne scored at least two runs in six of the eight innings, including a six-run first inning. Emory & Henry scored four times in the third, three times in the fourth and twice in the sixth, but the Bears walked it off with a Lleyton Lackey RBI single in the eighth to invoke the mercy rule. In the nightcap, after the Wasps opened a 2-0 lead, the Bears scored six times in the bottom of the second to take control. LR added a pair of runs in the fourth and four more in the sixth to expand the lead to 12-3.
