The State Fair Community College Roadrunners softball team celebrated the opening of their new on-campus softball stadium on April 2nd with a pair of victories over North Central Missouri College. The new outdoor athletic complex, located west of the Fred E. Davis Multipurpose Center, will also soon feature a new baseball field that is nearing completion. This marks the first time both Roadrunner sports programs will be able to play their home games on the SFCC campus.
Why it matters
The new athletic facilities allow SFCC to host more events and tournaments on campus, bringing more activity and visibility to the school. It also gives the softball and baseball teams a true home field advantage for the first time since their programs were established a decade ago.
The details
The softball stadium replaces the team's previous home field at Mandy Thomas Field in Centennial Park. The new baseball field, set to open later this month, will replace the historic Dey Field at Liberty Park that the team had been using. SFCC President Dr. Brent Bates says the new on-campus facilities will also be available for use by area high schools and other local teams as needed.
