Roy and Jess Holmberg, a couple living in Texas Heights, Kalamazoo County, are opening a new ice cream shop called TC Scoops this May. The shop will feature 16 rotating flavors of MOO-ville and Plainwell ice cream, Dole Whip fruit blends, and other treats, with a focus on local suppliers. TC Scoops will have a shaded outdoor seating area, a playground, and cornhole to create a family-friendly atmosphere.

Why it matters

The new ice cream shop will fill a void left by the closure of Lafayette Creamery in 2020, providing a local option for ice cream and frozen treats in the Texas Corners area of Kalamazoo County. The Holmbergs' focus on community, local suppliers, and a family-friendly environment aims to create a unique destination for residents and visitors alike.

The details

The Holmbergs, who both previously worked in the ice cream industry as teens, decided to open TC Scoops after their own kids asked for ice cream one night and they realized there was a need in the area. They quickly purchased the adjacent property to Texas Corners Brewing Co. and began construction on the new shop, which will feature two walk-up service windows, a shaded outdoor seating area, a playground, and cornhole. TC Scoops will be a seasonal business, open from April 15 to October 15 each year.

  • The Holmbergs closed on the property in May 2025.
  • TC Scoops is scheduled to open in May 2026.
  • The shop will be open daily from 11 a.m. to 9 or 10 p.m. during the season.
