The Maryland State Highway Administration has announced that portions of the Baltimore-Washington Parkway (MD 295) in Jessup will be closed for two weekends in April as part of an interchange reconstruction project. The southbound lanes of MD 295 will be closed between MD 100 and MD 32 from April 10-13, while the northbound lanes will be closed between MD 32 and MD 100 from April 17-20. Several ramps will also be closed during these periods as a bridge is demolished and replaced.
Why it matters
The closure of the B-W Parkway ramps in Jessup will cause significant traffic disruptions in the area, impacting commuters, travelers to Baltimore-Washington International Airport, and local businesses. The project is part of a larger effort to reconstruct the interchange at MD 175, which is a key transportation hub in the region.
The details
During the southbound closure from April 10-13, the following ramps will be shut down: both ramps from MD 100 and Arundel Mills Blvd onto southbound MD 295, as well as the southbound MD 295 ramp to eastbound and westbound MD 175 and the westbound MD 175 ramp to southbound MD 295. For the northbound closure from April 17-20, the following ramps will be closed: both ramps from MD 32 onto northbound MD 295, the eastbound MD 175 ramp to northbound MD 295, and the northbound MD 295 ramp to eastbound and westbound MD 175. The mainline MD 175 lanes on the new bridge will remain open.
- The southbound MD 295 closure will be in effect from 10 p.m. on April 10 until 5 a.m. on April 13.
- The northbound MD 295 closure will be in effect from 10 p.m. on April 17 until 5 a.m. on April 20.
The players
Maryland State Highway Administration
The state agency responsible for maintaining and improving Maryland's transportation infrastructure, including the Baltimore-Washington Parkway.
What’s next
The overall interchange reconstruction project at MD 175 is scheduled for completion in Fall 2027, weather and schedule permitting.
The takeaway
The upcoming closures on the Baltimore-Washington Parkway in Jessup are a necessary part of a larger infrastructure improvement project, but will cause significant traffic disruptions in the area. Commuters and travelers should plan ahead and use alternate routes to avoid delays.
