Love the Boot Week 2026, Louisiana's largest litter cleanup and beautification effort, has surpassed 1,000 registered events across all 64 parishes, highlighting growing participation and community pride throughout the state. Avoyelles Parish residents and schools are being encouraged to take part in the annual initiative set for April 18–26 as part of Earth Month.

Why it matters

The Love the Boot Week campaign aims to build long-term awareness, encourage environmental responsibility, and inspire communities—especially younger generations—to take pride in where they live. Last year's effort brought together nearly 27,000 volunteers statewide, removing more than 500 tons of litter and completing hundreds of beautification projects.

The details

Organized by Keep Louisiana Beautiful and supported by Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser, the statewide initiative invites students, families, and volunteers to help clean up litter, improve public spaces, and promote environmental responsibility. This year's campaign also ties into the celebration of America's 250th birthday, with participants encouraged to collect at least 250 pieces of litter. Schools across Louisiana are urged to get involved through campus cleanups, tree planting, gardening projects, and environmental lessons. Students can also participate in poster contests promoting litter prevention, while free educational resources and cleanup supplies are available through local libraries.
