Henderson was the youngest of four children born to Henry Willard Henderson and Anne Evelyn P'Poole Henderson, and he grew up on the family farm in Lyon County. He went on to work for the railroad and the Kentucky Department of Corrections before retiring, and was remembered for his storytelling, sense of humor, and deep love for his family.
