Garden City officials will host a neighborhood meeting on April 22 to discuss a proposed rezoning of properties near the Heron Park and Waterfront District areas along Adams Street. The rezoning would affect more than two dozen properties on both sides of Adams Street, between East 37th and East 38th streets, and along North Reed Street, with the goal of regenerating a former Ada County Highway District operations and maintenance yard site.

Why it matters

The proposed rezoning is part of Garden City's efforts to expand public access and river frontage along the Boise River, while ensuring compatibility with the surrounding neighborhood. The redevelopment of the former highway district yard site presents an opportunity to make better use of the property and potentially enhance the area's amenities and livability.

The details

City officials stated that the Comprehensive Plan identifies the area as an opportunity to expand public access and river frontage, and the proposal aims to achieve a higher and better use of the property while ensuring compatibility with the surrounding neighborhood.

  • The Planning and Zoning Commission will hold a public hearing on Wednesday, May 20, at 6:30 p.m.
