On April 13th, the US Postal Service intercepted a package shipped from California that was addressed to a guest at the Travel Lodge Hotel in Iowa City. After obtaining a warrant, authorities inspected the package with a K9 unit, which alerted to the presence of drugs. Upon opening the package, approximately 6 pounds of methamphetamine was discovered. On April 19th, police conducted a controlled pickup operation, with a slip left at the hotel's front desk. Two men, Jose Antonio Oliverlo Parra and Jorge Lopez, arrived at the post office to retrieve the package. Lopez was handed the package after presenting the pickup slip, and was then arrested outside the post office. Authorities also observed Lopez receiving messages on his phone from the original sender of the package.
