As the city prepares for its early morning street cleaning, the downtown streets take on a serene, almost dreamlike quality in the pre-dawn hours.Iowa City TodayThe City of Iowa City Streets division will be conducting street cleaning in the Downtown District starting at 2 a.m. on Friday, April 3, 2026. Vehicles parked in areas that do not allow parking between 2 and 6 a.m. will be towed, impacting several key streets in the downtown area.

The details
Towing will impact Prentiss Street to Market Street, Madison Street to Gilbert Street, North Clinton Street from Market Street to Church Street, and the 600 and 700 Blocks of South Dubuque Street. Vehicles can be moved to a Downtown Parking ramp or to on-street parking spaces outside of the affected area.
