Audubon native Hannah Thygesen was one of 20 recruits to graduate from the 53rd Department of Public Safety (DPS) Basic Academy. Thygesen has been assigned to District Five, which covers Cherokee, Plymouth, Buena Vista, Woodbury, Ida, and Sac counties in Iowa. A graduate of Audubon High School and Buena Vista University with a degree in criminal justice and psychology, Thygesen was inspired to pursue a career in community service after growing up in a family of first responders and experiencing first-hand the recovery efforts in Greenfield following a tornado.
