The Hawaii County Police Department's Puna Community Policing Section is holding the inaugural Puna Kupuna Watch meeting tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Pahoa Senior Center. Kupuna Watch is a free monthly outreach program designed to improve communication between police and residents, raise awareness of elder abuse and financial crimes, and help keep neighborhoods safe, especially for senior citizens.

Why it matters

The details

At the Kupuna Watch meetings, police officers will share crime and traffic trends, educate attendees on recognizing and reporting elder abuse, and provide tips to prevent financial and internet-related scams targeting seniors. Future monthly meetings will rotate to different locations throughout the Puna district.
