The Cleveland Browns have agreed to hire Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken as their new head coach, according to a league source. Monken, who also interviewed for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' offensive coordinator job, previously served as the Browns' offensive coordinator in 2019 and has a strong track record of leading productive offenses both in the NFL and at the college level.
Why it matters
The Browns have struggled offensively in recent seasons, finishing with the third-fewest yards and second-worst rushing attack in the NFL in 2025 under former offensive coordinator Tommy Reese. Hiring an experienced offensive mind like Monken signals the team's desire to get their offense back on track and build around star running back Nick Chubb.
The details
Monken, 57, has over two decades of coaching experience at both the NFL and college levels. As the Ravens' offensive coordinator the past three seasons, he helped Baltimore develop one of the league's most potent offenses, including the NFL's top rushing attack in 2023 and 2024. Prior to that, he served as the Browns' offensive coordinator in 2019, when the team ranked 22nd in total offense but saw Chubb make the Pro Bowl after a career-high 1,772 yards from scrimmage.
- Monken was hired as the Browns' new head coach on January 28, 2026.
- He previously served as the Browns' offensive coordinator in 2019.
The players
Todd Monken
The new head coach of the Cleveland Browns, who previously served as the offensive coordinator for the Baltimore Ravens and Cleveland Browns.
Nick Chubb
The star running back for the Cleveland Browns, who made the Pro Bowl in 2019 after a career-high 1,772 yards from scrimmage.
Kevin Stefanski
The former head coach of the Cleveland Browns, who was fired on January 5, 2026.
Tommy Reese
The former offensive coordinator for the Cleveland Browns, who was hired as the offensive coordinator for the Atlanta Falcons.
John Harbaugh
The former head coach of the Baltimore Ravens, under whom Monken served as offensive coordinator.
What they’re saying
“Having @PRic508 back has been a tremendous boost for us.”
— Todd Monken, Offensive Coordinator (Baltimore Ravens)
What’s next
The Browns will look to finalize Monken's coaching staff in the coming weeks as they prepare for the 2026 NFL season.
The takeaway
Monken's hiring represents a clear effort by the Browns to revamp their struggling offense and build around their star running back Chubb. His track record of success both in the NFL and college suggests he has the experience and expertise to get the Browns' offense back on track after a couple of disappointing seasons.
