Xavier Osceola, a true freshman guard for the Florida State University (FSU) basketball team, has announced that he will enter the transfer portal. Osceola, who is a member of the Seminole Tribe, did not play for the Seminoles during the 2025-26 season but will have four seasons of eligibility remaining at his next school.

Why it matters

Osceola's decision to transfer is part of a larger roster overhaul at FSU, with six seniors graduating and five other players also entering the portal. This will force head coach Luke Loucks to rebuild much of his roster for the upcoming season.

The details

Osceola, a 6-foot-1, 175-pound guard from Hollywood, Florida, averaged 15.3 points, 5.2 assists, and 2.2 steals per game as a senior in high school. He is believed to be the first NCAA Division I men's basketball player from the Seminole Tribe. Prior to joining FSU, Osceola competed in the Native American Basketball Invitational.

The takeaway

Osceola's decision to transfer highlights the ongoing roster turnover at Florida State, as the Seminoles look to rebuild their team for the 2026-27 season. As a member of the Seminole Tribe, Osceola's transfer also represents a significant loss for the program's diversity and representation.
