Fort Valley State University alumnus and former Green Bay Packers running back Emanuel Wilson has signed a one-year deal with the Seattle Seahawks, solidifying their backfield after the departure of Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker III.
Why it matters
Wilson's signing provides depth and a different running style to the Seahawks' offense as they look to defend their Super Bowl title. As an undrafted HBCU product, his journey to the NFL also highlights the talent pipeline from smaller college programs.
The details
Wilson started his college career at Johnson C. Smith University before transferring to Fort Valley State, where he rushed for over 2,000 yards and 22 touchdowns in just 16 games. After going undrafted in 2023, he signed with the Broncos and later joined the Packers, where he filled in admirably for the injured Josh Jacobs last November.
- Wilson signed the one-year deal with the Seahawks on March 14, 2026.
- In November 2023, Wilson had a standout performance for the Packers, rushing for 107 yards and 2 touchdowns in a win over the Vikings.
The players
Emanuel Wilson
A running back who played college football at Johnson C. Smith University and Fort Valley State University before signing with the Seahawks.
John Schneider
The general manager of the Seattle Seahawks, who praised Wilson's signing and the qualities he brings to the team's backfield.
What they’re saying
“Our pro staff did a great job evaluating, identifying Emanuel and just saying, 'Here's this 230-pound guy with great feet'. You sign a one-year deal like that, it's kind of like, come on in, come be part of our culture, come prove it, see what you can do and compete with the group. He gives us a little bit something different. He's a heavy runner, and [we're] excited about him.”
— John Schneider, General Manager
What’s next
The Seahawks will look to integrate Wilson into their offense during the offseason and training camp as they prepare to defend their Super Bowl title.
The takeaway
Wilson's signing demonstrates the Seahawks' commitment to building a well-rounded backfield and providing opportunities for undrafted talents, especially those from smaller college programs like HBCUs, to showcase their skills at the highest level.
