Caltrans has announced that northbound Interstate 405 through the Sepulveda Pass will be reduced to just three lanes over the next two weekends as part of a major $143.7 million pavement rehabilitation project. Several ramps will also be closed, including the Skirball Center Drive on-ramp and the Getty Center Drive off-ramp. Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes or use public transportation during this time.

Why it matters

The I-405 is a critical transportation artery through Los Angeles, and these lane reductions and ramp closures will cause significant traffic disruptions in the Westwood and Sepulveda Pass areas. The project is part of a larger effort to improve safety and mobility on this heavily traveled stretch of highway.

The details

The lane reductions and ramp closures are scheduled to begin at 10 p.m. on Friday, April 17 and continue through 5 a.m. on Monday, April 20. In addition to the main lane reductions, the Skirball Center Drive on-ramp to northbound I-405 and the northbound I-405 off-ramp to Getty Center Drive will also be closed. Caltrans is advising motorists to use public transportation or take alternate routes, such as traveling north on Sepulveda Boulevard and accessing the northbound I-405 via the Greenleaf/Ventura Boulevard on-ramp.
