The Solano County Sheriff's Office (SCSO) and the Vallejo Police Department (VPD) have launched a new partnership to provide supplemental patrols in underserved areas of Vallejo. The $11.2 million contract, approved in 2025, allows SCSO deputies to assist VPD from Wednesday through Saturday, 2 PM to midnight. The goal is to improve 911 response times and address rising violent crime in east and south Vallejo.

Why it matters

The partnership comes after Vallejo declared a local state of emergency in 2023 due to critical staffing shortages at VPD. The added SCSO presence is meant to restore community trust and provide a visible deterrent to crime, while not impacting service levels in other parts of Solano County.

The details

The supplemental patrols include six deputies, one sergeant, and one lieutenant from SCSO. A recent state law change allowed retired deputies to work more hours, freeing up the full-time deputies to assist in Vallejo. The community has welcomed the added presence, with residents thanking deputies and reporting improved 911 response times in the targeted areas.

  • The contract between SCSO and VPD was unanimously approved by the Solano County Board of Supervisors in September 2025.
  • The supplemental patrols began on January 21, 2026 and are set to continue through the end of 2026.
