The Ukiah Daily Journal is kicking off its annual spring fundraising drive for the Ukiah Boys and Girls Club, a critical local resource that provides a safe and enriching environment for kids during the summer and after school. The drive began several years ago when the club was threatened with closure, and the funds raised help support outdoor activities, arts and computer programs, as well as nutritious meals for 'latchkey' children.

Why it matters

The Ukiah Boys and Girls Club plays a vital role in the community by giving local youth a positive place to spend their time during the summer and after school, providing them with educational, recreational, and social opportunities that many may not have access to otherwise. Supporting the club's programs helps ensure kids in the area have a safe and nurturing environment to learn and grow.

The details

The fundraising goal for this year's spring drive is $65,000. The campaign has already received $15,200 in kickoff sponsorships from local organizations and individuals, including $5,000 each from Doctors at PRMG group and Redwood Credit Union, as well as smaller donations from Mendocino Forest Prod, Denise Gorny, Paul Shimmins, Kathy Smith, and Patrick Whalen. The club has expanded its programming over the years to include not just outdoor play and games, but also arts, computers, and additional resources to help kids navigate the world.
