The Golden State Warriors will reportedly sign center/power forward Charles Bassey to their roster, according to a report by Michael Scotto of HoopsHype. Bassey has spent the season dominating with the Warriors' G-League affiliate in Santa Cruz, but recently received a trio of 10-day contracts between short stints with the Boston Celtics and Philadelphia 76ers.
Why it matters
The Warriors are looking to fill out their roster ahead of the playoffs, and Bassey's strong G-League performance has earned him an opportunity with the NBA club. As an undrafted player, Bassey will be looking to prove he belongs in the league on a more permanent basis.
The details
Bassey, a Nigerian native, spent his college career at Western Kentucky before turning pro. He was drafted 53rd overall by the Philadelphia 76ers in 2021 but was waived after just one season. Bassey then landed with the Spurs on a two-way contract, where he spent the previous three seasons. Unable to secure another NBA deal, Bassey received a training camp invite with the Hawks but was waived, and had a brief 10-day stint with the Grizzlies before joining the Warriors' G-League affiliate.
- Bassey has averaged 20.4 points, 11.7 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks in 29.1 minutes per game with the Santa Cruz Warriors this season.
- In 8 NBA games, Bassey has averaged 2.9 points and 2.6 rebounds on 62.5% shooting from the field in 6.6 minutes per game.
