Giants Sign Former Guardians Outfielder in Late Free Agent Move

San Francisco adds another option to its lineup as spring training gets underway.

Published on Feb. 15, 2026

The San Francisco Giants have signed former Cleveland Guardians outfielder Will Brennan to a free agent contract. Brennan, a 28-year-old left-handed hitter and thrower, has played parts of four seasons in the major leagues with the Guardians, batting .266 in 2023 and .264 in 2024. He is not capable of playing center field, but the Giants recently signed Harrison Bader to fill that role. At most, Brennan could make the Giants' roster as a reserve or start the season at Triple-A.

Why it matters

The Giants are looking to bolster their outfield depth and offensive production after a disappointing 2025 season. Brennan provides another left-handed hitting option, though his career .680 OPS suggests he may be more of a bench or minor league depth piece than an everyday starter.

The details

Brennan was originally an eighth-round pick by the Guardians in the 2019 MLB Draft out of Kansas State. He has played parts of four seasons in the majors with Cleveland, though he was just 1-for-11 in six games played in 2025. The Giants are hoping a change of scenery can help Brennan unlock more of his potential.

  • Brennan signed with the Giants in mid-February 2026 as spring training was getting underway.

What’s next

Brennan will look to make the Giants' roster out of spring training, either as a reserve outfielder or by starting the season at Triple-A.

The takeaway

The Giants are continuing to add depth and options to their outfield as they look to bounce back from a disappointing 2025 season. While Brennan may not be an everyday starter, he provides the team with another left-handed hitting outfielder who could contribute at the major league level if he can rediscover the form that led to his solid 2023 and 2024 campaigns.
