Toyota has revived the C-HR nameplate for 2026, introducing an all-new all-electric small SUV. The new C-HR is larger, more powerful, and features standard all-wheel drive, a far cry from the original gas-powered model. While the C-HR EV delivers brisk acceleration and solid build quality, it lacks the dynamic driving character that some EV buyers may be seeking.
Why it matters
The 2026 C-HR represents Toyota's latest effort to expand its EV lineup, joining the bZ and bZ Woodland models on the brand's TNGA-E platform. As demand for EVs continues to grow, the C-HR will compete in the increasingly crowded small electric SUV segment against rivals like the Nissan Leaf and Volvo EX30.
The details
The 2026 C-HR features a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup with a total system output of 338 horsepower, enabling a manufacturer-estimated 0-60 mph time of 4.9 seconds. However, its 4,366-pound curb weight and low-grip tires prioritize refinement over outright performance. The C-HR offers an EPA-estimated range of 273 miles on the XSE trim with 20-inch wheels, and can charge at up to 150 kW on DC fast chargers.
- The 2026 Toyota C-HR is an all-new model, replacing the previous gas-powered C-HR that was discontinued after the 2022 model year.
The players
Toyota
A Japanese automaker and one of the world's largest car companies, known for its reputation for quality, reliability, and innovation.
What they’re saying
“While buyer demand for EVs in the U.S. is currently falling, the C-HR is arriving as one of a wave of new offerings.”
— John Pearley Huffman, Automotive journalist
What’s next
Toyota plans to begin deliveries of the 2026 C-HR EV in the United States in the third quarter of 2026.
The takeaway
The 2026 Toyota C-HR EV represents the brand's latest effort to expand its electric vehicle lineup, offering a compact, all-wheel-drive SUV with solid performance and build quality. However, its uninspiring driving dynamics may leave some EV enthusiasts wanting more excitement behind the wheel.
