The Rotary Club of Nevada City is hosting its annual drive-through lithium-ion battery recycling event on May 30, 2026 from 9am-12pm. This year, they are partnering with Peace Lutheran Church, which will also be collecting recyclable bottles and plastics during the event. The public can drop off their old lithium-ion batteries and devices at the church location in Grass Valley.

Why it matters

Recycling lithium-ion batteries is crucial to recovering valuable metals like cobalt, copper, nickel, and lithium that can be reused in new batteries, reducing reliance on mining new materials. This event provides a convenient way for the community to responsibly dispose of old electronics and batteries.

The details

The Rotary Club is accepting a wide range of lithium-ion battery-powered devices including cell phones, tablets, laptops, power tools, e-bikes, and more. Residents can simply bring the entire device, without needing to extract the battery first. The collected items will be sent to Redwood Materials in Nevada, where the minerals will be separated and remanufactured into new electric vehicle batteries.

  • The battery recycling event will take place on Saturday, May 30, 2026 from 9am to 12pm.
