The Los Angeles Convention Center (LACC) is undergoing a $2.6 billion expansion and modernization project that will add a new exhibit hall bridging over Pico Boulevard, creating 750,575 square feet of contiguous exhibit space. The project is scheduled for completion in Spring 2029 and will make LACC one of the top ten largest convention centers in the United States.

Why it matters

The expansion will allow large events to utilize a single, connected exhibit floor without having to split their footprint across separate halls. This will improve the attendee experience and make the LACC more attractive to major conventions and trade shows.

The details

The centerpiece of the project is a new exhibit hall that will bridge over Pico Boulevard, connecting the existing South Hall and West Hall. The completed campus will have 912,575 square feet of total exhibit space, including the 750,575 square feet of contiguous space. The new hall will feature 40-foot ceilings, floor boxes on 30-foot centers, and rigging on 15-foot centers to support large-scale events. The project also includes a new 98,000-square-foot multi-purpose ballroom, a three-level skylit atrium called the Skynode, and various modernization upgrades across the existing facility.

  • The $2.6 billion expansion and modernization project is scheduled for completion in Spring 2029.
  • Construction will pause between June and October 2028 to accommodate the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
  • By early 2028, the LACC will have about 80 percent of the work complete, in time for the 2028 Olympics.
