A glittering, high-fashion texture captures the timeless allure of a music legend's new creative chapter.Los Angeles TodayPaul McCartney is set to release his 18th solo album, 'The Boys of Dungeon Lane,' this spring. The 14-track project draws heavily from the music legend's personal memories of growing up in working-class Liverpool neighborhoods like Speke. McCartney has debuted the lead single 'Days We Left Behind,' which features lyrics referencing the album's title and his childhood on Forthlin Road.
Why it matters
As one of the most influential and acclaimed musicians of all time, a new Paul McCartney album is always a major cultural event. This deeply personal project provides a rare glimpse into the former Beatle's formative years and the working-class Liverpool community that shaped his early life and songwriting.
The details
The Boys of Dungeon Lane is McCartney's first solo album since 2020's McCartney III. The 14 tracks on the new project blend styles from across his storied career, while also including more personal material inspired by his relationship with wife Nancy Shevell. Produced by Andrew Watt, the album's title and lead single 'Days We Left Behind' directly reference McCartney's childhood in the Speke area of Liverpool, including the Forthlin Road home he shared with John Lennon.

What they’re saying
“This is very much a memory song for me. The album title, 'The Boys of Dungeon Lane,' comes from a lyric in this track. I was thinking just that, about the days I left behind and I do often wonder if I'm just writing about the past but then I think how can you write about anything else? It's just a lot of memories of Liverpool. It involves a bit in the middle about John and Forthlin Road which is the street I used to live in. Dungeon Lane is near there. I used to live in a place called Speke which is quite working class. We didn't have much at all but it didn't matter because all the people were great and you didn't notice you didn't have much.”
— Paul McCartney
What’s next
McCartney will perform intimate live shows in Los Angeles in the coming weeks to promote the new album.
