Federico Laboureau, the co-owner of Fuegos LA, an Argentinian restaurant in South Los Angeles, was tapped to design the interior of the casita set piece featured in Bad Bunny's Super Bowl halftime show performance. Laboureau, who has a background in production design and fashion, saw the project as a way to celebrate Latin culture and community during a time of fear and uncertainty for many immigrant communities.
Why it matters
Laboureau's involvement in the Super Bowl halftime show highlights the growing influence and representation of the Latin community in mainstream American culture. The casita set piece, which is a symbol of family and community for many Latinos, was a powerful statement during a time of increased immigration raids and deportations.
The details
Laboureau was approached in December 2025 to design the interior of the casita set piece for Bad Bunny's Super Bowl halftime show performance. He was given a 20-by-20-foot white canvas box with three windows and two doors to work with, and he envisioned a traditional abuelita's house filled with comforting details like porcelain figurines and plastic flowers. Laboureau and his team scoured flea markets and thrift stores to find the right props to make the space feel authentically aged. Bad Bunny pre-taped his segment inside the casita, falling through the roof and crashing a family gathering before exiting to the rest of the performance.

- The casita set piece was constructed at the Shrine Auditorium and Expo Hall, minutes from Fuegos LA.

What they’re saying
“For a Latino — or I think for everyone — a casita means a temple where you get together with your family, with your friend, where love happens. It's not about the actual set, but being part of a huge event and showing Latinos we are here, we are not going anywhere. We are massive. We are happiness, we are passion and we are community.”
— Federico Laboureau, Co-owner, Fuegos LA (Los Angeles Times)
“I have my American passport, but it's challenging, what my community is going through. In a moment when our president is declaring the official language is English, having the main show of the Super Bowl where somebody's singing in Spanish is something historical. It was being part of something very powerful for my community.”
— Federico Laboureau, Co-owner, Fuegos LA (Los Angeles Times)
What’s next
Laboureau and his partner Maximilian Pizzi plan to unveil a new dining room and Argentine pizza offerings at Fuegos LA later this month.
The takeaway
Laboureau's involvement in the Super Bowl halftime show design highlights the growing influence and representation of the Latin community in mainstream American culture, even as many in that community face increased fear and uncertainty due to immigration policies. Fuegos LA serves as a cultural hub, using food and community events to celebrate Latin heritage and values.
