The La Mirada softball team had won 21 consecutive Gateway League games going into their matchup with Warren on Tuesday. But behind a complete game from sophomore pitcher Vivi Navarrete, Warren snapped La Mirada's win streak with a 5-1 victory. Navarrete also helped her own cause with a two-run single in the fifth inning to give Warren a 5-1 lead.

Why it matters

This game was a key Gateway League matchup between two of the top teams in the area. La Mirada was the No. 1 ranked team in the San Gabriel Valley and had looked dominant through the first few months of the season. Warren's win over the Matadores creates a four-way tie for first place in the league standings.

The details

La Mirada struck first when shortstop Reese Hilliard hit a solo home run in the top of the first inning. But Warren responded in the bottom half of the inning with an RBI double from Julissa Gradilla to tie the game at 1-1. The Matadores had a chance to take the lead in the third inning when they loaded the bases, but a lineout ended the threat. Warren then added three runs in the fifth inning, including Navarrete's two-run single, to build a 5-1 advantage.

  • On April 14, 2026, Warren defeated La Mirada 5-1.
  • La Mirada's last loss before this game was on March 7, 2026 against JSerra.
