A second eaglet has hatched in the Big Bear Lake eagle nest, joining its sibling as the proud parents Jackie and Shadow welcome two chicks. The second chick hatched on Easter Sunday morning, April 5, 2026, with the first eaglet already starting to feed at that time.
Why it matters
The hatching of the two eaglets is an exciting milestone for the local Big Bear Lake community, who have been closely following the eagle family's journey through the live nest cam. The arrival of the second chick is a symbol of new life and renewal, fitting for the Easter holiday.
The details
According to the Friends of Big Bear Valley and the Big Bear Eagle Nest Cam, the second chick officially hatched at 8:30:45 am on Easter Sunday. The first eaglet, known as Chick 1, was already beginning to feed at that time, though initial feedings can be challenging as the chicks build up their muscle strength. The parents, Jackie and Shadow, are providing small portions of fish and other prey, as well as nourishing saliva full of electrolytes and antibodies, to help the chicks get a healthy start.

What they’re saying
“And Chick Makes Two...”
— Friends of Big Bear Valley
“This morning April 5th chick 2 made is final scoot out of the eggshell and was considered fully hatched at 8:30:45 cam time.”
— Friends of Big Bear Valley
“Chick 1 was getting its first successful feeding at that time. Initial feedings are often challenging as the chicks do not have much muscle strength in their necks. At this stage they are often called bobbleheads!”
— Friends of Big Bear Valley
“You can also see Jackie salivating quite a bit. The parents' saliva is full of electrolytes and antibodies which gives the little ones a good healthy start!”
— Friends of Big Bear Valley
“Shadow arrived shortly after the second hatch and was able to see both eaglets for the first time. He seemed quite proud and didn't waste any time snuggling in for daddy duty.”
— Friends of Big Bear Valley
