Toilet Paper Roll Core Creatures
When two brothers in invented the toilet paper roll in 1890, they couldn’t have suspected how useful the cardboard core would become for Halloween. Smush the top down to create “ears,” paint it black, glue a couple of eyes on it and you’re on your way to making either a cat or a bat. Paint it white and it’s almost a ghost, green and it’s nearly Frankenstein. The versatility is terrifying!

Paper Plate Jack O’ Lanterns
Cut eyes, noses, and mouths out of black construction paper and glue them onto orange plates and you’ve got jack o’ lanterns without the pumpkin-y mess!

Handprint Spiders
To make legs, have kids trace their hands with pencil on two sheets of black construction paper and cut them out. Then take a third sheet and have them cut out medium sized circles and glue the hands to the back of either side of the circle. Glue on spooky eyes, repeat many times, and spook out!

Mason Jar Ghosts
Couldn’t be easier! Glue one end of a roll of gauze to the jar, wrap it around a few times, cut and glue the other end down. Then glue on a pair of googly eyes and drop an LED tea light candle at the bottom of the jar. Eerie!

Masking Tape Mummy
Draw a body on black construction paper, cover it in pieces of masking tape, cut out the body figure, then add googly eyes.

Paper Bag Witch
Paint the front of a paper lunch bag black and the bottom of a small paper plate lime green and let dry completely. Then trace your child’s hands onto orange cardstock paper and cut them out. Cut a nose out of green cardstock paper and a witch hat out of black cardstock paper. When paper plate is dry, cut a slit out of each side of the plate to big chin on the witch face. Staple the face onto the bottom of the paper bag, then staple each handprint onto your paper plate for the hair. Then staple the witch hat at the top of the paper plate. Glue on googly eyes and nose and draw a mouth with red marker. Witchy!!

Fabric Ghosts
Pre-cut 9-inch squares of white fabric. Let the kid place a styrofoam ball in the center of each square, then gather the fabric around the ball and tie a ribbon around the neck. Draw eyes on the ghost, then hang from anywhere with invisible string. Boo!

Melted Crayon Pumpkin
Unpeel and cut a bunch of Crayolas in half, glue them to the top of a white pumpkin and then blast them with a blow dryer until they melt and drip down the pumpkin. Terrifyingly colorful!

Popsicle Stick Spider Web
Use a hot glue gun to glue three popsicle sticks together in the middle. Paint the sticks with black, orange and white tempera paint. Tie a long piece of orange, white or black yarn to one of the sticks, then wrap your yarn around each popsicle stick, tying it off on the stick where the string ends.

Pipe Cleaner Spiders
Hold four pipe cleaners in one hand and bend them in half, then twist them together in the middle to create a loop for the spider’s “body.” Twist a couple times to make sure the pipe cleaners are secure. Separate the “legs” then slide beads onto each leg in various positions. and bend the legs to create “joints.”
