The Sheridan Electric Cooperative Board has approved a $17.3 million project to build a new facility that will include a large cold-storage building, vehicle maintenance areas, and an expanded main office. The project is expected to take around 20 months to complete and will provide the capacity needed to serve the cooperative's growing membership and power load.
Why it matters
Sheridan Electric Cooperative's current facility has become inadequate to meet the needs of its growing service area and membership. The new facility will improve employee safety and comfort, provide more storage and work space, and allow the cooperative to hire additional staff to keep up with increasing power demand.
The details
The proposed new facility will include a 200' x 100' cold-storage building estimated at $2.7 million, as well as a main building with parking, mechanical rooms, offices, and infrastructure estimated at $14.6 million. While a significant investment, the total projected cost of $17.3 million came in well below the original $20 million estimate. The cooperative has hired a construction manager to oversee the project and explore additional cost-saving opportunities.
- The project was first introduced at the cooperative's October 2023 annual meeting.
- The board approved the 'go' decision on the project in February 2026.
The players

Dave Geib

What’s next
Geib will now collaborate with approved subcontractors, work to lock in material pricing, and begin laying the groundwork for the new facility, which is projected to take approximately 20 months to complete.
The takeaway
Sheridan Electric Cooperative's investment in a new, modern facility demonstrates its commitment to serving its growing membership and community, while also prioritizing employee safety, comfort, and the ability to expand its workforce to meet increasing power demand.
