WYDOT Returns To Finish Work On Green River Tunnel

Eastbound tunnel to close for 3 days to install concrete barriers and glare shields.

Mar. 11, 2026 at 10:21pm

The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) will be closing the eastbound tunnel on Interstate 80 in Green River, Wyoming for three days starting March 23 to install concrete barriers and glare shields. During the closure, traffic will be rerouted onto Flaming Gorge Way. Once the barriers are in place, traffic will move back to I-80 until March 30, when it will be switched to head-to-head in the eastbound tunnel to allow crews to finish work in the westbound tunnel over the next few months.

Why it matters

The closure and construction work on the Green River tunnels on I-80 is necessary to improve safety and complete infrastructure upgrades, but will cause temporary disruptions to traffic flow through the area.

The details

Crews will work from roughly 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. to get the concrete barriers and glare shields installed in the eastbound tunnel. The eastbound ramp on the west end of Green River will also be closed to traffic during this time. Once the eastbound tunnel work is complete, traffic will be switched to head-to-head in that tunnel to allow crews to finish installing new conduit and lighting in the westbound tunnel over the next few months.
