What they’re saying

“This was a solid year for the MAC and every year there is a different crop of kids. Sometimes the OVAC brings in some highly regarded seniors, and sometimes the MAC does. It just so happened the MAC had a lot of Pennsylvania state placers and state qualifiers.”

— Danny Doyle, Wheeling Park head coach

“Coming off of that ankle injury, he hasn't been on the (wrestling) mat since he lost in the West Virginia state finals, so it was nice to see him come out tonight and show what he has.”

— Danny Doyle, Wheeling Park head coach

The takeaway

The dominant performance by the MAC wrestling team highlights the depth and talent of Pennsylvania-based high school wrestlers, while also raising questions about the current state of wrestling in the OVAC region. The annual 'Tri-State Clash of Champions' event provides an opportunity for the top wrestlers from both conferences to showcase their skills and compete against elite competition.
